Hiking to the Rim of Mt. St. Helens Equipment List Top
It can be cold in morning and on top, while warm in between, bring proper clothes): Minimize wearing cotton clothes because once they get wet, they stay cold. Cotton shorts, tee shirt are OK, but you should bring backup synthetic long underwear (top and bottom).
__ Something for breakfast if you did not eat prior to the departure (ex. bagels, bananas, muffins, orange juice)
__ Snacks & lunch: nuts, dried fruit, hard candy, granola bars, power bars (constantly eat to keep energy up)
__ Blowing dirt might irritate your eyes, so leave your contact lenses at home
__ two pairs of socks (non-cotton) to prevent blisters, (1 thick, 1 thin)
__ synthetic (polypropylene, Capilene) long underwear bottoms and tops
__ hat with visor __ water, 2-quarts minimal
__ whistle __ knit/stocking cap
__ good-broken in hiking boots, waterproofed __ lip protection
__ boot gaiters to keep snow/dirt out __ sun screen
__ rain jacket and rain pants (also used to glissade on) __ warm sweater/jacket
__ sunglasses __ walking stick if helpful on descent
__ personal first aid kit __ personal items: camera, etc
__ sweater or pile jacket __ knee brace if you have weak knee
__ $ for snacks or dinner (depending on return time) __ 2 bandannas
__ tennis shoes to change into at hike's end (left in van) __ lunch
